Cottage Info

Colgrain has the appearance of a traditional croft style home but has all the advantages of a modern superbly stylish property.  The house was designed by “Skye Homes”, a local company which specializes in creating contemporary, versatile and well-proportioned living accommodation which harmonizes with its setting.

GROUND FLOOR
Front entrance porch with attractive pine dresser which has a large selection of cards, games, jigsaws etc suitable for all the family.  There is a giant “Portapuzzle” so you can tackle a jigsaw without having to keep moving it off the dining table!

Hallway
Bright and spacious hallway leading to Lounge, Sitting Room, Dining Room and WC:-

Lounge
Beautiful large room with four windows giving views over Loch Greshornish.  Large sofa, medium sofa and three armchairs.  Wide screen television, with Sky (including all main stream channels) and DVD player – a range of DVDs are provided.  Electric fire and a range of floor and table lamps.  We love this room – it is so relaxing!

Sitting Room

A bespoke sofa bed opens out to a full size double bed. We had this specially made by an upholsterer friend to our specification and we think he has done a wonderful job. There is also a matching footstool which can be used to store all bedding during the day. There is a stereo CD and cassette player with a range of CDs to suit all tastes. A well stocked bookcase provides a wide range of books, maps etc. The layout of the house means that this room can be kept separate when privacy is needed. Another issue we have encountered often!

Dining Room

This is a really bright and spacious room with solid pine extending dining table, pine dresser, corner unit and bookcase. The dresser is crammed full of plates, bowls, cups, saucers, serving dishes – enough to do some serious entertaining if you really wanted! The table will comfortably seat 10 people – folding chairs are available for larger parties.

Kitchen

There is a large bright kitchen with a superb range of appliances.  We really enjoyed shopping for all this lot!  There is a double electric oven and grill with separate gas hob.  We loved the huge “American style” fridge freezer with ice maker.  There is also a food processor, a blender, a mixer, a slow cooker/steamer/rice cooker, scales and pretty well everything we could think of.    In addition there is an extensive range of pans, baking ware, microwave cooking utensils.  The large number of storage cupboards allows plenty of room for storing food and other essentials (by the way there are wine racks in the cupboards under the stairs!).

There is a phone in the kitchen which accepts incoming calls and allows you to make emergency calls. The number will be provided with booking confirmations – this is very useful as mobile reception is somewhat patchy around the island!

Utility Room

There is a washing machine, tumble drier and microwave. Also there are further storage cupboards and door to side of property.

UPPER FLOOR

Main Bedroom

The main bedroom has a king size bed, built-in wardrobe and chest of drawers.   The window has far reaching views across the hills at the back of the property.

Leading off the room is an attractive en-suite bathroom with WC, wash basin and thermostatically controlled shower.

Bedroom 2

Very large room with flexible layout.  The bed can be arranged as either a super king size bed or, alternatively, two single beds.  There is also a built in wardrobe, chest of drawers and dressing table.

The room has a window to the front giving fabulous views across Loch Greshornish – another lovely place to sit and while away an hour or two!

Bedroom 3

This room also overlooks the Loch.  There are bunk/twin beds and a built in wardrobe.  There is also a dressing table providing additional storage.

We have also provided an additional “pull out” single bed which can be used for another young person.  It is a full size single bed with a “proper” mattress and so, again, is very comfortable.

The house is set in about half an acre of land, mostly laid to grass.  The decking area (off the dining room) has a table, two benches and chairs which can comfortably seat eight people.  There is also a drying line for guests to use.
